Re-opening of My Etsy Shop

After a very long sabbatical (a couple of years actually), I've re-opened my SusanHimmelArt Etsy Shop.  This piggybacks on the artisan fair at Handmade at the Hollow this past weekend where I realized how much I've missed selling these items all created from original paintings or including an original painting. SO here goes!

In my Etsy Shop you will find:

  • Fine Art Cards - blank note cards with an archival ink prints of my paintings
  • Silver Pendants with prints of my paintings mounted under a glass done on a 24 inch chain
  • Mini Journals with tiny original watercolors affixed to the cover of Moleskine pocket journals
If interested, stay in touch as each day I will be adding more items to the shop.

Small Business Saturday - Handmade at the Hollow

Handmade at the Hollow - Small Business Saturday
November 25, 2017

Details are finished and everything is ready to be packed up for this extraordinary artisan event in downtown Albany, NY. I loved participating in this show last year and am looking forward to it again this year. And I finished just in time to start making my Mom's Cape Cod Cranberry Bread for Thanksgiving dinner.

Wishing you and yours a blessed and happy Thanksgiving Holiday. Gratitude is a daily practice for me, but on this special day, I always feel extra blessed regardless of what is going on close and far away. I'm grateful to be here.

New Mini Journals

In addition to the pendants and art cards, twenty mini journals have been completed so far. This rounds out what I'll be offering at the Handmade at the Hollow event on Small Business Saturday, November 25th in downtown Albany. It was such a fun event last year that I'm really excited to be participating again this year.

Oh, and of course, I will have a selection of small paintings available for sale, too. Stop by and say hello if you are in the area.

What's New?

As autumn is solidly upon us, we are in the midst of artisan festivals, fine art shows, and handmade gift buying opportunities. Spending so much of my time working on new paintings, I found my inventory of gift items to be on the low side. So I slid into gear to create more fine art cards and pendants. Pendants are made from photos of my paintings affixed to glass with a silver backing and hung on a 24 inch silver chain.

All art cards are reproductions of my original paintings printed with archival ink on fine card stock with matching envelope. There are a few new designs this year, as well as usual favorites.

I'm working to finish up more mini journals with tiny original paintings attached. Remember them? Each Moleskine cahier pocket sized journal comes with an ACEO affixed to the front that can also be detached if you are a collector of ACEOs. I will post photos next week when some are completed.

Happy creating to all my fellow makers out there. I know how busy you are right now!

Reunion Show Tonight, 10/6 at NUarts

Along with several other artists who are also alumni at NUarts, I will be showing work from my new series tonight. If you are in the area, you can find me at Studio 19, where I will be camping out for the night. Who doesn't love a pop up exhibit, right?

The artists are NUarts have graciously invited us for a night of art, conversation and camaraderie. Having enjoyed five years as part of this group (and Art on No) before moving to Albany, I am so pleased to be joining them tonight for this First Fridays Artswalk in Pittsfield.

"Sun Over Mountains" is a mixed media piece with a lot of texture from my new series, Fake Landscapes. There are eight paintings from this series on view this evening. It's such a fun series to work on!

Fall Focus

~Inspiration from the fabulous, Mary Todd Beam

I'm spending some time revitalizing my art by creating a series of mixed media pieces. I am largely inspired by all of nature and by Mary Todd Beam. She is a wonderful teacher and artist! Autumn always feels invigorating to me as the temperatures moderate and nature puts on it's most colorful show.

In contrast to our beautiful fall weather, I'm deeply saddened for all the people who are suffering under the ravages of hurricanes Harvey and Irma. I pray for your safety and recovery.

Whimsical Series

A few seeds were planted last year about creating a series of paintings around "fake landscapes or fake nature" and ever since I have really fancied the idea. It was an interesting journey to see where those first seeds would take me.

While creating a number of these paintings, I listened to a wonderful album by Mark Kelso with Linda Worster called Grief & Grace. While at first it seemed a little odd to me that this music would feed my whimsical painting, but it must have been just what I needed at the time. Marking art is very much a part of my spiritual journey. There is a great sense of peace and calm now that wasn't there when I began this project. Thank you universe!

Blooming in Stockbridge

It's been a busy spring so far! I recently dropped off three more paintings at the Red Lion Inn Gift Shop in Stockbridge, MA thereby completely their orders for the short term. I love going to the gift shop because there is such a variety of beautiful items made by local artists and artisans. While there, I was told the art photo necklaces are selling well and that means I will need to be making more of them soon though.

These paintings were created in watercolor but with many layers of glazing. This technique produces quite a different look from the usual transparent loose flowers. I enjoy painting using both techniques and have started some looser paintings currently. I like to mix things up from time to time.

Poppy, Sunflower, Shasta

The Red Lion Gift Shop carries a number of my paintings, mini journals, art cards and art photo necklaces. The Good Purpose Gallery in Lee, MA also carries mini journals, art cards and the art photo jewelry. I am looking into selling the smaller items online again and will keep you posted about developments in that area.

Today feels like a summer day - time to take a break and a long walk.

What's New for Spring

Spring is just around the corner, literally four days from now. While outside my window there's a twenty inch blanket of fresh snow from this week's blizzard, Spring will still come. And as Spring bursts forth, I am busy creating new mini journals, art cards, jewelry and small paintings for The Red Lion Inn Gift Shop.

Serendipity at work again... I will also add a few larger paintings to my inventory there over the next couple of months, as I paint them. I will be sure to pop some on here to show you what I'm working on next. Happy creating and Happy Spring!
